Donald R. Martin, 53, of 308 E. Eighth St. N. died Friday, Feb. 13, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Syd McCrorey of Community Heights Alliance Church officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available. Memorials will be accepted to the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Carl and Clorena (Morgan) Martin Sr., he was born July 7, 1950, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1969. On Dec. 23, 1982, he married Debra Mudra in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a machine operator for Farm Hand Inc. in Grinnell for 22 years. He retired in 1995. Mr. Martin served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick D. and Desiree Martin and Dusty R. Martin, all of Newton, and Jeffrey A. and Jennifer McDermott of Moore, W. Va.; three grandchildren; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Carl Martin Jr., Ronald Martin and Lonnie and Sharon Martin, all of Newton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty and Jeff Bolinger, Lillie and Kevin Noland and LeWonda and James Carolus, all of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Interment: at Newton Union Cemetery

Those left to honor Donald's memory are his wife, Debra of Newton; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick D. and Desiree Martin of Newton, Dusty R. Martin of Newton, and Jeffrey A. and Jennifer McDermott of Moorefield, West Virginia; his 3 grandchildren; 3 brothers and sister-in-law, Carl Martin, Jr., Ronald Martin, and Lonnie and Sharon Martin, all of Newton; and his 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty and Jeff Bolinger, Lillie and Kevin Noland, and LeWonda and James Carolus, all of Des Moines, Iowa.

Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a graduate of Newton High School in 1969.

Memorials to the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation may be left at the funeral home.
