Forrest H. Klingensmith, 77, of 755 N. Fourth Ave. E. died of emphysema Friday, Feb. 6, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith and Rod Brouwer officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Max and Edith (Chance) Klingensmith, he was born July 4, 1926, in Lovilia. He graduated from Albia High School. On Sept. 16, 1945, he married Betty Gardner in Lovilia. He worked at Maytag Company for 30 years and retired in 1980. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Eldorado Methodist Church and Local 997.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Nicholas Klingensmith and Dennis and Lori Klingensmith, all of Newton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Dean Raffety of Colfax and Beverly and Mike Taber and Jeanne and Rod Brouwer, all of Newton; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Mildred Klingensmith of San Marcos, Calif.; a step-brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Claudine Ross of Lovilia; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters in infancy, one step-brother and two step-sisters.
