ALTOONA -- Garry Tyrone Hawkins, 53, of Altoona, formerly of Monroe, died of pulmonary disease Sunday, Feb. 22, at his home.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Altoona Funeral Home in Altoona. The body will be cremated.

Memorials will be accepted to the Runnells Fire Department.

The son of Glenn and Mildred Hawkins, he was born Jan. 12, 1951, in Monroe. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was a member of Altoona American Legion. He enjoyed his granddaughters, family and outdoor activities.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy, of Altoona; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Abby Hawkins of Runnells; a daughter, Rhonda Hawkins of Altoona; three granddaughters; a sister and brother-in-law, Dixie and Dave Wade of Newton; his mother and father-in-law, Herb and Myrtle Schwarz; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Paul and Karen Slycord and Kenny and Sandy Schwarz; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
