Ethel M. Hannagan, 90, of Newton died of heart failure Thursday, Jan. 29 at USA Health Care in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Newton Salvation Army Citadel with Lt. Ron Cook and Lt. Carol Cook officiating. A short fellowship time will follow the services. Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hannagan was born Sept. 25, 1913 in Centerville, the daughter of Charles William James Mackey and Katherine Louella Logsden Mackey. She graduated from Newton High School. She was a resident of Newton most of her life.

She was united in marriage to Don Hannagan on Aug. 31, 1935 in Newton. She was a homemaker and farm wife and a Salvation Army Sgt. Major, serving as Corps treasurer, as a young people Sgt. Major and a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed music and playing piano. She played the guitar in the Salvation Army String Band.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Fink of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, James and Robert Mackey; two sisters, Nancy Leola Van Blaricum and Imogene Celestine Van Blaricum; and a son-in-law, Terry Fink.
