MONROE -- Robert E. Colyn, 79, of Monroe died Sunday, Feb. 29, at Careage of Newton.

Private family services will be held Tuesday with the Rev. Ann Rouse of the Monroe Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the American Cancer Foundation. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

The son of John and Marjorie (Jennings) Colyn, he was born March 7, 1924, in Monroe. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1942. On May 26, 1946, he married Irene Biehl in Troy, Kan. He lived in the Monroe area his entire life and farmed. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Colyn and Jeannie Colyn, both of Newton; and a sister, Darlene Brouwer of Prairie City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul.
