J. Everette Wasson, 88, of 110 N. 5th Ave. W. in Newton died Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Services was held today, Friday, at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, 209 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton, with Rev. Cindy Jean Saul, interim pastor, and John Zieman of Newton officiating. Burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery in Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton handled arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church Radio Fund or to the Jasper County Historical Museum and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of James Warden and Delia (Wheatcraft) Wasson, he was born Nov. 18, 1915 ,in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1933. He worked as a farmer and lived on the family farm his entire life.

On Aug. 30, 1941, he married Doris M. Young in Newton. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church where he had been an elder and a deacon, Jasper County Farm Bureau, Jasper County Historical Museum, a past trustee of Palo Alto Township, honorary member of Newton FFA and a past 4-H leader of the Wildcat Boosters.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Darla Wasson of Armour, S.D.; a daughter, Jean Wasson of Orlando, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
