Dale R. Verwers, 65, of Newton died Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Memorial services will be Friday at 7 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a coffee time at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the Kellogg Historical Society and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Raymond and Helen M. (Cook) Verwers, he was born April 29, 1938, in Kellogg. He served in the United States Navy and was an independent truck driver. He enjoyed reading, cleaning and detailing cars. He lived in Kellogg and Newton and also lived in California for 10 years.

Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Roberta Verwers of Gladbrook and Jim and Trudy Verwers of Newton; a sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Don McKeever of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece.
