J. Woody Proctor, 56, of 121 N. 11th Ave. E. died Tuesday, Jan. 14, at his home. Cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Kalen Fristad of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to The Salvation Army and may be left at the Funeral home.

The son of Lester W. and Gretchen (Haynes) Proctor, he was born Dec. 15, 1946, in Ottumwa. He was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1965 and, attended Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, Mo., for two years. On June 10, 1972, he married Rhonda Dain in Ottumwa. He owned and operated Woody’s Lawn and Lot Service for 15 years. Mr. Proctor was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in rural Blakesburg, a volunteer assistant wrestling coach at Berg Middle School and wrestling coach for kid's club. He also was a longtime Boy Scouts of America leader.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her fiancé, Afton Proctor and Travis Bates of Ottumwa; three foreign exchange sons, Timo Piepponen of Helsinki, Finland, Roli Schwermann of Zug, Switzerland, and Sheikh Rahman of Mankato. Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and maternal and paternal grandparents.
