Kenneth Duane Pollard, 81, of Newton died of heart failure Thursday, Nov. 27, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Jim Olson of Zoar Church in rural Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the American Cancer Society.

The son of Edward and Katie (Stewart Pollard) Thompson, he was born March 1, 1922, in Moravia. He was a freezer operator and made Ivory soap for Proctor & Gamble Manufacturing Company in Long Beach, Calif. He retired in 1977 and was a member of the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tom Schultz of Mantua, Ohio; six granddaughters; five great granddaughters; five great-great granddaughters and six great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Glenn, and a brother, Rex Pollard.
