Owen Eugene Oswalt, 81, of 2807 S. 2nd Ave. E. died of heart and kidney failure Thursday, Dec. 4, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

A Time of Celebration will be held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at a later date.

Friends are invited to a time of fellowship and coffee with the family during the Time of Celebration at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in his name or to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League.

The son of Harye and Lola Coopman Oswalt, he was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Lucas County. On Oct. 25, 1941, he married Kathryn "Kay" Marie Fisher in Unionville, Mo. He served in the United States Army Air Force and flew a F38 during World War II and F80s during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Maytag Company in the paint department of Plant 2 as a foreman. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111, VFW Post 1655 and was a past member of Newton Elks Club and a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed golf.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Rhonda Oswalt of Newton, Ron and Nancy Oswalt of Ottumwa and Mark and Barb Oswalt of West Des Moines; a daughter, Tina and J. D. Geneser of West Des Moines; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Phillis Dito of Newton; two brothers, Glen and Phil Oswalt, both of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
