LEAVENS, CREVELING, TRUEPER

H. B. Leavens, 91, of 200 S. 8th Ave. E. died of complications of respiratory disease Tuesday. Jan. 14, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Syd McCrorey of the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.

Family will greet friends today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County, American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Albert F. and Melissa V. (Creveling) Leavens, he was born May 1, 1911, in Pennington, S. D. On Jan. 25, 1934, he married Alma Caroline Marie Trueper in Denison. He was a mechanic for Newton Implement for 15 years and retired in 1984. Prior to working for Newton Implement, he farmed. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Newton.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. and Lynn Leavens of Charlotte, and Harold K. and Judy Leavens of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Daniel Hildenbrand of Burlington; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two great-great-grandsons and 10 brothers and sisters.
