Lawrence John "Larry" Jordan, 74, of Newton died of congestive heart failure Saturday, Nov. 8, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Howard Vrankin officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Cumberland, Wis. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church where the family will be available. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name to Project Awake, Jasper County Historical Society, Arts Connection, First Lutheran Church or to the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge.

The son of Joseph and Helen (Arnold) Jordan, he was born March 8, 1929, in Mellen, Wis. He graduated from Mellen Senior High School and attended Superior State College and received a degree in engineering from the University of Wisconsin. On Sept. 13, 1958, he married Mary Margaret Hilton in Wausau, Wis. He worked for the Maytag Company in Newton, starting in June 1958 and retiring in 1993 as a design engineer.

Mr. Jordan was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton for many years and a member of Project Awake, Jasper County Historical Society, Arts Connection and Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. He was a Lt. Navigator in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He lived in Madison, Wis., until he moved to Newton in 1958.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric Joshua and Carey Jordan of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, JoHanna Clare and Randy Morris of Liberty, Mo.; four grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Riederer of Ashland, Wis.; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Harriet Jordan of Minocqua, Wis.; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Helen Sailors, and two brothers, William and Edward Jordan.
