Henry D. Irish, 76, of 414 W. 3rd St. S. died Friday, Nov. 28, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Newton with the Rev. Ed Aubuchon officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The son of Guy and Alice (Perry) Irish, he was born June 26, 1927, in Kiowa, Colo. He was a graduate of Cabool High School in Cabool, Mo., in 1945 and earned a master's degree in theology. He was given two honorary doctorate degrees. On June 28, 1946, he married Virginia V. Long in Springfield, Mo. He was an administrator for several school districts in Iowa. He had been an administrator/teacher for two Bible colleges. He preached for several small churches that were without a pastor. He worked for the Maytag Company for more than 13 years and retired in 1992. He and his wife owned and operated Donut Land in Newton from 1980 to 1990.

Mr. Irish was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Newton and was a licensed minister with the Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He grew up in Missouri and lived in several communities in Iowa.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry Irish of Eldridge; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beck and Jeff Wiltgen of Rogers, Ark., Kathy and Greg Hartgraves of Bothell, Wash., and Cindy and Jim Erlemeier of Duluth, Minn.; six grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Folk of Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and five sisters.
