Frank L. Hutchins, 85, of Newton died of congestive heart failure Dec. 14 at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Mary Schnepf and Chaplain Merle Smith officiating.

A private family burial will be held at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton at a later date.

The family will greet friends and family immediately following the memorial service with a coffee time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the First United Methodist Church or to the DAV. The memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The son of John N. and Ina M. (Long) Hutchins, he was born Oct. 21, 1917, in Perry. He was a graduate of Maquoketa High School in 1936. On April 6, 1942, he married Virginia E. Myers in Oswego, Kan. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a photographer for Tyler Studio and photographer and graphic artist for Dunlap Mfg. He retired in 1974.

Mr. Hutchins was a member of the Newton First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 111 and a lifetime member of the DAV. He was a musician, playing the piano and organ, and was a member of the Jack Cozad Band for years.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Victoria Hutchins of Newton, Rodney Hutchins of Kellogg and Russell and Susan Hutchins of Maple Grove, Minn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three
brothers and two sisters-in-law, Charles awl Shirley Hutchins of Newton, David and Marilyn Hutchins of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Donald Hutchins of Southgate, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, a sister and a brother.
