GRINNELL - Gerald L. Henning, 66 of Grinnell, formerly of Jasper County, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, at his home of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Tim Stewart of the Grinnell First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials will be accepted to the Gerald L. Henning Memorial Fund.

The son of Cad and Eva (Reynolds) Henning, he was born May 31, 1937, in Jasper County near Prairie City. He was a 1956 graduate of Kellogg High School. On Nov. 9, 1956, he married Carol Anne Matteson in Kellogg. The couple made their home in Grinnell. He was employed for several years at Maytag and later Grinnell Implement prior to being employed as a mechanic with Clark Brink GMG Sales in Grinnell for 41 years. He retired in 2001. He was a member of the Grinnell First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Judy Norton and Ruth Henning, both of Kellogg, and Marcia White of Grinnell; and one brother, Virgil Henning of Madison, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two daughters, Melissa and Jane Henning; one brother, Carl Henning, Jr.; and one sister, Edith Luckey.
