Wilda G. Harger, 86, of Newton, died Monday, Dec. 22 at Heritage Manor in Newton.

Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Burial will be at New York Cemetery in Wayne County.

Friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Jasper County or to Progress Industries and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Thomas C. and Flossie M. (Haner) Reynolds, she was born June 23, 1917 in Bethlehem. She grew up in Wayne County and moved to Newton in 1940. On July 1, 1950, she married Frank Harger Sr. in Knoxville. She was a homemaker and worked at Maytag during World War II. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, bead crafts, bingo and collecting salt and pepper shakers and cardinals.

Survivors include two step-sons and a daughter-in-law, Frank Jr. and Janet Harger of Newton and Marvin Harger of Braman, Okla.; two step-daughters and a son-in-law, Evelyn and Dale Mohler of Newton and Norma Counter of Witchita, Kan.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and a son, Ronald West of Baxter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1988, a step-son, Vernon Harger, two step-grandchildren; a brother; and two sisters.
