PRAIRIE CITY – Marvin Gilbert, 72, of Prairie City died Monday, Nov. 3, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Prairie City Christian Church - Disciples of Christ with the Rev. Robert T. Price officiating. Burial will be at Vandalia Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after noon Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the church or to the Prairie City Ambulance Fund.

The son of George Raymond and Kate (Hess) Gilbert, he was born Oct. 5, 1931, in Prairie City. He graduated from. Prairie City High School in 1949. On Oct. 28, 1950, he married Mildred Pulver in Prairie. City. He was a farmer and carpenter with Frank Brothers Construction. He also drove truck.

Mr. Gilbert was a member of IOOF Lodge No. 144 in Prairie City and a member of the Prairie City Christian Church - Disciples of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Sharon Gilbert, Mike and Terri Gilbert and Bruce and Cheryl Gilbert, all of Prairie City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Malinda and Dave Shafman of Kalispell, Mont., and Marcella and Arnie Prosch of Dubuque; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, C.A. Gilbert of Prairie City; and two sisters, Hilma Duffy of Mallard and Janice Ruth Moss of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin grandsons, two brothers, Dennis and Wilmer, an infant brother and a sister, Laura Philipson.
