FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Stuart W. Ferguson, 84, of Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly of Newton, died of complications of cancer Sunday, Jan. 5, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Reese Chapel in Newton with Pastor David Wendel of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may, call Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials will Ferguson be accepted to Newton Little League.

The son of Glenn and Irene, (Johnson) Ferguson, he was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Colfax. He attended Newton schools. In August 1941, he married Lois Awtry. He served in the United States Navy and lived in Bemidji, Minn., for a brief time. He worked as a building and grounds superintendent for the Maytag Company for 35 years and retired in 1982.

On April 6, 1987, he married Marjorie Hull. In 1988 he moved to Glendale, Ariz., and then to Fort Wayne, Ind., in October 2002. Mr. Ferguson was a life, member of B.P.O. Elks and had served as exulted ruler. He was a member of National Management Association, Newton Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Voiture Locale No. 283, 40/8, RSVP, Clan Ferguson Society of North America and View Methodist Church in Sun City, Ariz. He coached his sons in Pee Wee, Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Debra Ferguson of Denison and Dr. Stuart and Susan Ferguson of Pennington, N. J.; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Michael Kreager of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step-great -grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and a brother.
