Wilma E. Eilander, 81, of 1804 S. 7th Ave. E. died Sunday, Dec. 7, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with pastor A. B. Sudbrock of the Newton Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper county or to the Newton Public Library and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Andrew J. and Antonette (Verros) Buwalda, she was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Pella. She grew up in Pella. On Sept. 23, 1942, she married William Eilander. She was a homemaker and while her husband served during World War II, she lived in Pella. She was an active member of Newton Baptist Temple and enjoyed sewing, reading and studying the Bible. She enjoyed time with her family. She was a resident of Newton for 60 years.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Darlene Eilander and Larry and Betty Eilander, all of Newton, and Billy Eilander of Grinnell; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Schmidt of Marshalltown, Alice and David Whitlatch of Spencer, Donna and Terry Mann of Eldora, and Nancy McConnell and Rosemary and John Long, all of Newton; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Eddie Buwalda and Lucille and Gerald VanAndel, all of Pella, Aldora Buwalda of Del Mar, Calif., and Margaret Tepley of Claremore, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son in infancy, a daughter, Judith A. Pherigo, four grandchildren and two infant sisters.
