Elva B. Ealey, 97, of 2130 W. 18th St. S. died of heart failure Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Careage of Newton. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Newton with the Rev. Gene Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the church. Memorials will be accepted to the First Christian Church and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The daughter of Nicholas O. and Lydia E. (DeVoss) Brown, she was born March 9, 1905, in Mt. Ayr. On March 8, 1938, she married William L. Ealey in Jefferson City, Mo. She was a homemaker and seamstress and did mending and alterations until she was 90 years old. Mrs. Ealey was a member of the First Christian Church and was a resident of Newton since 1947.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Valerie Ealey of Kellogg; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother. Marvin Brown of Hollister, Mo.; and two sisters, Edna Mayfield of Tyler, Texas, and Fern Davis of Eagle, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and a sister.
