PRAIRIE CITY – Howard N. Den Hartog, 82, of Prairie City died Sunday at Kavanagh House on Grand in West Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Prairie City First Reformed Church with the Rev. Douglas Dobbie officiating. Burial will be at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to his church or to Hospice of Central Iowa.

The son of Simon and Hattie (De Bruin) Den Hartog, he was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Leighton. On Feb. 18, 1944, he married Margaret Willemsen in Oskaloosa. He was a farmer and was a member of the First Reformed Church in Prairie City and served as a deacon and elder. He lived most of his life in the Prairie City and Mitchellville areas.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Ruth Den Hartog of Newton and Don and Sandy Den Hartog of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Den Hartog of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
