Edna May Deaton, 94, of Newton died Saturday, Dec. 27, at Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Larry Spader officiating. Burial was held at Newton Union Cemetery. A time of fellowship with the family was held after the funeral at the Community Heights Alliance Educational Center in Newton.

Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County, Community Heights Alliance Church or Jasper County Historical Society.

The daughter of Francis and Mary (Frush) Blake, Mrs. Deaton was born Dec. 19, 1909, in Indianola. She spent her childhood in rural Sandyville and her teen-age years in Avon Lake and Carlisle.

On Aug. 14, 1926, she was united in marriage with Carrol Deaton in Des Moines. They lived in Des Moines and moved to Newton in 1930, where they remained except for a three year period living in the Baxter area.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Herman and Patricia of Newton and Neal and Laura of Plymouth, Minn.; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy and Delbert Turner of Newton and Jerie and Harold Millard of Peyton, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; and her brother, Fred Blake of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Grace Smith; and a brother, Forest Blake.
