CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Robert W. Daasch, 78, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Newton, died Thursday, Dec. 4.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Broad Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Andy Ferguson officiating. Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at Broad Street United Methodist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. where the family will be available.

He was the son of Walter and Milda Untiedt Daasch and was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in business administration. He was a former deacon, trustee, elder and treasurer at the Newton First Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, where he served during World War II in the Night Fighters Squadron of the 7th Air Force and also served during the Korean Conflict. He served for a total of 10 years in the military and was a captain at the time of his discharge. He retired from Maytag after 39 years of employment as a purchasing manager.

Mr. Daasch was a member of the Cleveland and Newton Kiwanis Club and had volunteered as a tutor at the Blythe Avenue School and Blythe-Bower Elementary School for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Stuart Daasch of Cleveland; two children and their spouses, Cindy and Tim Spires of Cleveland and Mark and Carla Daasch of West Chester, Ohio; six grandchildren; and one brother, Lowell Daasch of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
