MAQUOKETA - Shawn P. Chaplin, 12, of Maquoketa, son and stepson of Angela and Rick Ervin of Newton, died Thursday, Nov. 6, at Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Community Church in Maquoketa with Pastor Larry Spader of the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Delmar.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Carson and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Maquoketa.

A Shawn P. Chaplin Memorial Fund has been established. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.carsonandson.com.

The son of Michael Chaplin and Angela (Flanery) Chaplin. He was a sixth grade student at Maquoketa Middle School. He enjoyed wrestling, basketball, hunting, fishing and camping and was an organ/tissue donor.

Survivors include his father, Michael, "Mike" Chaplin of Maquoketa; his mother and stepfather; a sister, Marley Flanery of Maquoketa; three brothers, David Chaplin of Maquoketa, Jacob Ervin and Lucas Ervin, both of Newton; his maternal grandparents, Dave and Jan Flanery of Ormond Beach, Fla.; his maternal great-grandmother,Mildred Schneden of Delmar; two uncles and two aunts.

He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Donna and Paul "Chappy" Chaplin, and his maternal great-grandfather, Lavertis Schneden.
