Monroe News – Mrs. John Nearmyer, 72, passed away at the home of her son, Ray Nearmyer on December 12, 1941. She is survived by seven sons, Frank Nearmyer, Prairie City, Orville Nearmyer of Colfax, Keith of Colfax, Kenneth of Seattle, Wash., Willis, Ray and Forrest of Monroe. One brother, Edward Stroup, Des Moines and three sisters, Mrs. George Bourdon, Denver, Colo., Mrs. B. F. Thomason of Long Beach, Cal., Mrs. Martha Norris of Los Angeles, Cal., 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Monroe Baptist Church by Rev. C. E. Shafer.
Pallbearers were Lawrence and Loren Nearmyer, Donald and Wayne Nearmyer, Kenneth Rexroat, and Carol Birkenholtz. Interment was in Monroe cemetery.

Mrs. John Nearmyer Services Tuesday
Sarah Josephine Stroup, daughter of Michael and Ada Stroup, was born in Highland County, Ohio, on October 4, 1869 and passed away at the home of her son, Ray Nearmyer, near Monroe, Iowa at 5:20 p.m. on December 12, 1941 at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 8 days.
She came to Iowa, with her parents at the age of one year and spent one year in Iowa and then moved to Nebraska remaining there until the age of three, afterward moving back to the State of Iowa to spend her remaining days in Marion and Jasper counties.
It was on March 18, 1900 that she was united in marriage to John Nearmyer of Monroe, Iowa.
She leaves to mourn her passing seven sons – Frank Nearmyer of Prairie City; Orville of Colfax; Keith of Colfax; Kenneth of Seattle, Washington; Willis, Ray and Forest of Monroe.
She is also survived by one brother Edward Stroup of Des Moines and 3 sisters – Mrs. George Bourdon of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. B. F. Thomason of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Martha Norris of Los Angeles, California; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; infant daughter; one brother, W. L. Stroup; three sisters, Ella Tice, May Phibbs and Jennie Stroup.
Mrs. Nearmyer was a well-known citizen of Monroe. She was a woman of many commendable characteristics; a good mother and a friend to many.
She became a Christian while yet a young woman. She was a member of the local Baptist Church and was faithful to her church as long as strength was hers to enjoy.
She will be missed by her loved ones and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Monroe Baptist Church by the Rev. C. E. Sharer.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Abram Kool and Mrs. C. E. Sharer. Pallbearers were Lawrence and Loren Nearmyer, Donald Wayne Nearmyer, Kenneth Rexroat and Carol Birkenholz.
Interment was in the Monroe Cemetery.
