Funeral services for John Schultz, 89, of Otley were held Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Co-Operative Chapel in Pella. Mr. Schultz who had been ill for quite some time died Tuesday at the Bell hospital in Pleasantville.
Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.

John Schultz was born in East Prussia on March 8, 1860. He passed away at the Bell Hospital in Pleasantville on Oct. 18, 1949, at the age of 89 years, 7 months, and 10 days. He came to the United States when he was about 20 years of age. He worked as a miner and farmer in several different states but the greater part of his life was spent in Marion County. Since 1925 he has lived in Otley, Iowa. In 1886 he was married to Mrs. Mary Slocum who preceded him in death as did one stepson, Sterling Slocum.
He is survived by one step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Ford of Denver, Colorado, and two stepsons, George Slocum of Denver, Colorado and Zack Slocum of Otley as well as a large number of step-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 20, 1949 at 1:30 p.m. from the Co-operative Chapel. The Reverend Mr. George Pennington officiated. Bearers were Chas. Vander Kolk, Maxwell Carnahan, Henry Breuklander, James Van Vliet, John Sille and John Vanden Baard. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.
