Wendell Mick Is Crash Victim, Funeral Today
Funeral services were held today at the United Presbyterian church for Wendell Mick who was fatally injured in an auto accident Monday evening.
The services were officiated by the Rev. Ralph M. Donaldson, with Crumpacker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mick, 24, was injured when his auto went out of control and struck a bridge on a gravel road three miles southwest of Pella. His chest was pierced by a four-inch angle iron torn from the bridge railing by the impact and hurled through the windshield of the auto.
The young man was taken to Mahaska County hospital at Oskaloosa where he died Tuesday morning.
Wendell Duane Mick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Mick, was born October 6, 1929 near Monroe.
He attended a country school near Monroe in his early childhood and in 1947 graduated from Monroe high school. He was united in marriage July 15, 1950, to Delores Meyers and to this union there were born two children, Dennis, 3, and Caryl, 2. He was employed at Maytag Co. at Newton.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister and his father who passed away in 1950. He leaves to mourn his death besides his wife and children, his mother, two brothers, Dwight of Kellogg and Daryl of Des Moines, and one sister, Mrs. Ray Williams (nee Lyla) of Washington, D.C., and his grandmother, Mrs. Marcella Wilson of Newton, as well as many other relatives and friends.
