Services Held Sunday For Horace Oldham
Horace T. Oldham, a lifelong resident of the Monroe community, died Thursday at the Pella Community hospital after an extended illness.
Services were held Sunday in the Monroe Methodist Church with the Rev. James Poulsen in charge. Burial was in the Monroe cemetery.
Mr. Oldham is survived by his wife, Emma; two sons, Ordell and James, both of Monroe; three daughters, Mrs. John (Gladys) Van Baale of Kellogg, Mrs. Kenneth (Anna) Krueger of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. James (Uella) Miles of Tyler, Tex.; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Olive) Blackledge, and Grace Oldham, both of Monroe; and Mrs. Roy (Arie) Gray of Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, two brothers and two sisters.
He was a member of the Monroe Methodist Church.
Mr. Oldham farmed for many years and was a carpenter after moving to Monroe.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. James Oldham, he was born February 10, 1884 near Monroe and educated in Jasper County schools.
He was married to Rose Herwehe in August 1905 and, after her death, to Emma Herwehe in 1953.
