Chipps Funeral Held Friday
Frank Chipps, a retired farmer and banker and a lifelong resident of this community, died June 3 at Methodist hospital in Des Moines of a heart ailment.
He was born near Monroe on April 4, 1867. On May 17, 1900, he was married to Annette Palmer. To this union, three children were born: two girls, Coyla Ruth, who lived one short year, Nelle Berdine, who passed away in 1939 at the age of 36, and a son, Burton Smith.
He is survived by his wife with whom he had observed their 53rd wedding anniversary, one son, Burton, his daughter-in-law, Helen, and three grandchildren, E. Craig Boyd, Jr., Betty Ann Boyd and Alan Smith Chipps.
He was an active member of the Methodist church and had served the church in many capacities. His most cherished memories were of the many years that he was teacher of the young men’s Sunday school class. He was a charter member of KP lodge and a member of the Masonic lodge.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, June 5 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Russell Nye officiating.
Music was furnished by Letha Gloyd, pianist, and Thelma Lewis, vocalist, who sang “The Lord’s Prayer” at the close of the services.
Pallbearers were __ , Carl, __, Les Beyer, Cecil Rector and Elmer Peery.
The flowers were in the charge of Jane Crumpacker and Mrs. J. D. Long.
Those in attendance from a distance included David Bruce, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Callison, Mr. and Mrs. Carrol Maber, Mrs. Hattie Palmer, James Cochrane and Pearl Mateer, all of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Price of Ogden, L. N. Mateer, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Mateer, Mrs. Gertrude Welle, Mr. and Mrs. P. Gaylord, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Livingston, Mr. and Mrs. George Cannon, R. B. Livingston, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Birkenholtz, and Isaac Fouch, all of Newton and Mr. and Mrs. Loren Thomasson of Knoxville.
