O’Connor, Peter Oliver – 1862-1941

Peter Oliver O’Connor, son of John and Mary O’Connor, was born in Tennessee on December 5, 1862, and departed this life at Monroe on December 11, 1941 at the age of 79 years and 6 days. He was united in marriage to Easter Heavlin in 1880. To this union five children were born, Robby, who died in infancy, Mrs. Molly Romans, Mrs. Frank Martin, Mrs. Edmund Wood and Marion O’Connor.
Most of Mr. O’Connor’s life was spent in Jasper County and in around Monroe. He was a member of the Christian church of the old Draper neighborhood and was baptized by the Reverend Wright, pastor of the church.
He was preceded in death by the afore-mentioned son, Robby, by his wife Easter on October 6, 1897, and by a daughter, Mrs. Edmund Wood on November 27, 1941. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Molly Romans and Mrs. Frank Martin and by the son, Marion O’Connor, all of Newton. He leaves also seventeen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren together with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on December 13th, 1941, at 1:30 o’clock p.m. at the Pella Co-operative Funeral Home of Monroe and at 2:00 o’clock at Tool’s Chapel. Mrs. Abram Kool and Mrs. C. K. Shearer, assisted by Mrs. Emma Sweeney sang “Face to Face,” “Abide With Me,” and “One by One.” Reverend Forrest Moore of Hartwick had charge of the service and interment was in Gifford Cemetery, Monroe, Iowa.
