Anna Burggraff was born December 25, 1874 near Pella and passed away at her home in Otley at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 3 days.
On March 3rd, 1896, she was united in marriage to John A. J. Schippers and to this union eleven children were born, Namely, Arnold of Pleasantville who passed away in 1937, Tunis of Monroe, Henriette (Mrs. John Henken) of Prairie City, Alice (Mrs. Maxwell Carnahan) of Otley, Milton of Newton, Sarah (Mrs. John Den Otter), Leroy and Marie who died in infancy, Marion and Louis of Otley, and Lester of Oskaloosa.
Her early life was spent near Pella and after her marriage she and her husband spent most of their lives in the vicinity of Otley and Monroe except a few years they lived near Salem, South Dakota.
She accepted Christ as her Saviour and became a member of the United Presbyterian church of Monroe, later changing her membership to the Reformed church at Otley of which she was a member at the time of her death.
In 1939 she received a severe head injury from which she recovered but two years ago her health began to fail. She was patient in her illness, being confined to her bed many times. She often expressed a desire to be well enough to attend church services and Dorcas Society of which she had been a faithful attendant until her health forced her to remain at home.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, eight children, twenty-five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, five brothers, three sisters and a host of relatives and friends. Her parents and two grandchildren, Dennis and Norma Ray preceded her in death.
She was a faithful loving wife and mother and a Christian example to her children. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 31, 1941 at 1:30 p.m. at the Reformed Church of Otley, preceded by a brief service at the home at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Morris Folkert was in charge. Interment was made in Monroe cemetery at Monroe, Iowa.
