Emmert Calvin Bricker, son of John T. and Mary Jane Bricker was born Sept. 20, 1869 in Franklin Co., Pennsylvania near Claylick and passed away Thursday morning, May 30, 1946, at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 9 days.
The deceased came to Illinois when 20 years of age and was united in marriage to Lenora May Lofton Feb. 27, 1895 in Bushnell, Ill. They made their home in Illinois until 1901 when they came to Iowa and lived at Newton and Killduff a few years. Then they moved to the farm south of Monroe, Iowa in 1904 where they have resided since.
To this union five children were born, one son, Leslie Harold, having died in infancy. Mr. Bricker is survived by his widow, Lenora May, who is ill in the hospital at Iowa City, and four children, Clarence R. Bricker of Otley, Mrs. Leo Allard of Knoxville, Ethel Bricker of Monroe and Mrs. Murray Van Hemmert of near Cordova, two brothers, Albert Bricker of Hagerstown, Md., Charles Bricker of Mercersburg, Pa., one sister, Mrs. Belle Snyder of Mercersburg, Pa., also 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bricker accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour in July, 1944.
He has been in ill health for some time bedfast since April 9, 1936. He was given all the care and attention that loving hands could give him. Mr. Bricker was an honest and industrious man. He confined his interest to his family and his labors, was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a good husband, kind father and made friends everywhere.
Funeral services were held Saturday June 1, at 2 p.m. from the Baptist Church at Monroe, conducted by Rev. J. L. Pace of Yarmouth. Burial was in Monroe Cemetery.
