Cordova News – We never learned of the death of Mrs. Mary Shannon in Monroe until now. She was found dead in her bed by her son Saturday, Dec. 5. Mrs. Munson visited her Thursday evening. The funeral was conducted Tuesday, Dec. 8. She was born and raised near Otley.

Services Tuesday For Mrs. Mary Shannon
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Shannon were held Tuesday afternoon in the Baptist church with the Rev. Donald Brong officiating. Mrs. Lorraine Honnold was organist with Mrs. Charlotte Laird as soloist.
Mrs. Shannon passed away Friday evening at her home in Monroe.
Mrs. Nettie Warner and Mrs. Jane Fennema were in charge of flowers. Pallbearers were Floyd Shannon, Lester Bierma, John Van Ryswyk, Cecil Rector, Ed Shannon and Duane Wearmouth.
Interment was in the Monroe cemetery.
Obituary
Mary Permilla Shannon, child of Cornelius and Sarah Bierma, was born at Otley on February 14, 1875 and departed this life from her home in Monroe on December 5, 1959, at the age of 84 years, nine months and 20 days, living most of her life in this vicinity.
She was united in marriage to Glover Shannon on February 18, 1896. To this union were born four children – Theron of Des Moines; Mable, now deceased; Carl of Wheaton and Clyde of Kiggie, Belgian Congo, Africa.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 2, 1942, her daughter and brother, Orrin. She is survived by her three sons, 12 grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters, Hessel of Canada, Theron of Indianola, John of California, Jennie Smith of Canada and Anna Scheppele of California, and other relatives and many friends.
She was converted at an early age and became a member of the Monroe Baptist church where she attended most faithfully whenever able.
She will be remembered as a most kind and gentle person, always expressing a love for her Lord and a desire that others might come to know him as their personal Saviour.
