Schippers, John – 1871-1949

John Schippers, son of Arnold and Hendreka Schippers, was born in Marion County July 16, 1871 and passed away at Otley, Iowa march 2nd, 1949 at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 16 days. He spent most of his life near Otley and Monroe except for a few years he lived in South Dakota.
On March 3rd, 1896 he was united in marriage to Anna Burgraaf of Pella, Ia. To this union were born Arnold and Tunis, deceased, Mrs. Henriette Henken of Prairie City, Mrs. Alice Carnahan of Otley, Milton of Newton, Mrs. Sarah Den Otter of Monroe, Marion of Oskaloosa, Louis of Bussey, Leroy and Marie who died in infancy. Mrs. Schippers passed away Jan. 28, 1944.
On February 21, 1945 he was married to Jennie Deitrick of Otley. He is survived by his widow, 4 sons, 3 daughters, 28 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and two brothers. His parents, 5 sisters, 2 sons and 3 grandchildren preceded him in death. At an early age he accepted Christ as his Saviour and for many years has been a member of the Otley Reformed Church of Otley.
Funeral services were held Saturday, (text missing) 1949 at 1:30 p.m. from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Carnahan and at 2 p.m. from the Otley Reformed Church. The Rev. L. W. Muller officiated. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.
