Schippers, Johanna – 1876-1958

Mrs. Johanna Schippers, daughter of Tunis and Alice Van Gorp Burggraff, was born Feb. 28, 1876 at Pella, Iowa, and passed away at her home in Monroe Thursday, June 12, 1958. She attained the age of 82 years, 3 months and 14 days.
On March 22, 1899 she was united in marriage to Yella Schippers at Pella, Iowa. The family home was established in the Pella community until 1914 when Mr. and Mrs. Schippers purchased a farm south of Monroe where they lived until 1953.
After Mr. Schippers death, Mrs. Schippers moved to her present home in west Monroe, where she has lived since 1954. Born to this union were four children namely: Arnold Schippers, (Jeannette) Mrs. Russell Simons, Edward Schippers, all of Monroe and one son who died in infancy.
Those left to mourn her passing are her three children, five brothers and two sisters; Peter of Pella, John and Neal of Des Moines, Mrs. Elizabeth Veenstra of Newton; Samuel of Glendale, Arizona, Mrs. Minnie Cooper of Newton, and Henry of Rock Ford, Colorado. Also five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death wee her parents, husband, one son, and one sister, Mrs. John Schippers.
By confessions of faith she joined the Reformed Church at an early age, and attended regularly when her health permitted.
Prayer services were held 1:30 p.m. at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home and memorial services were held from the Otley Reformed Church at 2 o’clock p.m. Saturday, June 14, 1958. The Rev. John Staal officiating. Interment was made in the Monroe Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were H. H. LeGrand, John Van Roekel, Marion Van Haaften, Arie Beyer, Clarence Meyers and Duane Van Haaften. A quartet composed of Jack Rozendaal; Roy Van Essen, Myron Van Wyk and Francis Van Dusseldorp, accompanied by Mrs. Roy Van Essen rendered two selections namely: “Rock of Ages” and “Nearer My God to Thee.”
