Glenn Noon, 51, Former Merchant, Succumbs Saturday
This community was saddened Saturday morning upon hearing of the sudden passing of Glenn Noon, 51-year-old former Monroe merchant, civic worker and life-long resident of this community.
Mr. Noon’s death was a shock to his family and friends even though he had not been in completely good health since he suffered a severe heart ailment several years ago. He had made a fairly good recovery and again was active in business endeavors.
Following his illness, Mr. Noon had sold his Monroe plumbing and heating business. When able to work again, he became a sales representative for a Newton firm. More recently and until last Friday he had been working in Des Moines in an eating establishment.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Orin Young, pastor. Mrs. William Barber sang 2 solos, accompanied by Mrs. Ralph Gloyd was at the piano. Mrs. Al Disrud was organist.
Flower arrangements were by Mrs. Ralph Rinehart, Mrs. Paul Craven and Kenneth Kingdon. Pallbearers were Max Creager and Paul Craven of Newton, Ralph Rinehart, H. C. Dickman, Les Tool and Ralph Rinemuth. Crumpacker Funeral Home had charge.
Interment was at the Monroe cemetery.
Obituary
Glenn Harold Noon, son of Albert and Kate Noon, was born near Monroe, Iowa, October 30, 1905, and passed away at his home in Monroe September 28, 1957, at the age of 51 years, 9 months and 28 days. His entire life was spent in Monroe.
On December 3, 1933, he was married to Helene Van Haalen of Prairie City.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Diane Berkenbosch, and his son, Robert, his mother, Mrs. Albert Noon; his son-in-law, Carroll Berkenbosch, one granddaughter, Susan Berkenbosch, three brothers, Jesse, Dale and Carl; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Van Haalen, Mrs. Harry Jack and Mrs. Ralph McDaniel, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
Glenn served a number of years on the Monroe town council, and was a past president of the Commercial Club.
He was a member of the Monroe Methodist church, the Masonic lodge, and Monroe volunteer fire department.
