Wood, Ida Belle George – 1875-1957

Mrs. Ida Belle Wood, daughter of James and Amanda Prosser George, was born in the Bethel neighborhood, Marion County, Ia. on January 29, 1875, and passed away November 9, 1957 at the Skiff Memorial Hospital at Newton, after being confined there the past ten days.
On February 1, 1893 she was united in marriage to Eli Wood and the farm home was established in the Bethel neighborhood. The year 1938 the couple took up residing in Monroe. Mr. Wood passed away in 1943.
Born to this union were four sons and five daughters, namely: (Blanche) Mrs. Raymond Brodersen; (Pearl) Mrs. Frank Gunsaulus of Newton; (Ivy) Mrs. Jacob Dingeman of Monroe; Dale of Newton, (Mable) Mrs. Harold Sellers of Newton; and Bert of Reasnor.
Surviving her passing are the six children, two sisters, Mrs. Vida McConeghey of Monroe and Mrs. Clara Gilland of Rock Island, Illinois; also 17 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one brother and one sister and three children, Clarence in 1938, Harold and Grace in infancy.
Mrs. Wood was a member of the Tool’s Chapel Methodist Church, and a member of the “Three Quarter Century Club.”
The body was taken from the Garden Chapel Funeral Home to the Wood’s residence Monday morning where prayer services were held at 1:30 prior to the memorial services held at the Tool’s Chapel Church, 2 o’clock the Rev. Donald Wooge officiating. Interment was made in the Fairview Cemetery. Two selections were rendered by Mrs. Thelma Lewis, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Letha Gloyd namely, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Good Night and Good Morning.” Caring for the floral tributes were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Kaldenberg, Glen McConeghey, Bert Reese, Harley Wood, Gerald Berkenbosch, Lee Phillipe, and Floyd Tool served as casket bearers.
