Monroe Man Killed and Another Badly Hurt
Automobile Driven By Ray Hoagland Lands In Ditch With Both Men Under It
A serious automobile accident happened at the Ralph Hendershot farm just north of Monroe on No. 14 Wednesday at about 10:30 when the Ford roadster, in which they were driving, struck a soft patch of gravel, skidded and headed for a ditch which was from 18 to 20 feet deep. In going over landing on the occupants pinning them beneath its weight.
Mr. Comas, a rural mail carrier happened along just a short time after the accident and attempted to lift the car from the bodies but was unable to do so and drove to Monroe and brought assistance. In getting the car up sufficiently to get the bodies from under it, it was discovered that Hoagland had been killed while Wm. Clark, the other occupant was seriously hurt. He was taken to the Kingery home where he had been staying and medical aid summoned, but there is not much hope for his recovery. The body of Hoagland was taken to the undertaking parlors at Monroe where it was prepared for burial.
The deceased was about 28 years of age and leaves to survive him a mother, Mrs. Laura Hoagland, four brothers, Ralph, Earl, Charles and Leroy, and four sisters, Mabel, Ruth, Edith and Margaret.
The funeral services will be held at 2:30 this afternoon from the Methodist church at Monroe, interment in the Monroe cemetery.
