Gerrit Zandstra Died Thursday
Gerrit Zandstra, son of Jacob Zandstra and Margaret Vander Maulen Zandstra, was born in Ylat, Friesland, in the Netherlands on July 29, 1883. He came to America in 1903 and settled at Otley, Iowa where he has since resided with the exception of one year spent at Monroe, Iowa. He died at Otley, Iowa on April 22nd, 1937 at the age of 53 years, 8 months and 24 days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Kommer on the 25th day of February, 1908 at Monroe, Iowa. He leaves to mourn his death his loving wife and three adopted children, Alice, now Mrs. William Vanden Oever, Marie, now Mrs. Leonard Heemstra and Frances at home with her mother. Besides these he leaves two sons-in-law, four grandchildren, four brothers and one sister.
Gerrit Zandstra was of a kind and living disposition. He was a true friend and neighbor and never refused assistance in the time of need. He was a genial friend and made many true and lasting friends. He was faithful and regular in church attendance, and when called upon to render assistance did so with a willingness that caused others to respect him.
He shall be missed among his friends and neighbors, and all of us have lost a true friend, but we hope and trust as he indicated to his loved ones in his last words, that he was prepared to meet his maker and that we shall meet again.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24, at the Reformed church at Otley, with the Rev. N. Rozeboom officiating. Interment was made at Monroe cemetery.
