Sam Nearmyer Dies at Age of 57
Funeral services were held at the Monroe Methodist Episcopal Church Wednesday afternoon for Samuel Nearmyer, who passed away at his home Monday, July 16, after a lingering illness of several years duration.
The services were in charge of Rev. R. R. Moser. The Pleasant Hill quartet composed of Paul Brown, John Smits, Don Hedweh and Herbert Carter sand “sometime We’ll Understand” and “No Night There,” and Sweet Resting.” Accompaniment was by Mrs. Edith Cowman. Pallbearers were his nephews, Arthur, Harold, and Hubert Jennings, Willis, Ray and Forrest Nearmyer.
Samuel Nearmyer, son of John and Gertrude Nearmyer, was born near Pella, Marion county, Iowa, Sept. 2, 1876, and departed this life at his home near Monroe July 16, 1934, at the age of fifty-seven years, ten months and fourteen days.
On February 27, 1901, he was united in marriage to Minnie Sytsma of Pella, Iowa. To this union one daughter was born. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, and his daughter, Mrs. Letta Brown, and three grandsons, Gordon, Lloyd and Glen Brown, and seven sisters, Mrs. Jennie Jennings, Mrs. Lizzie Vos, Mrs. Katie DeWit of Prairie City, Mrs. Clara Van Rees of Pella, Mrs. Laura Klein of Knoxville, Mrs. Cora Kirkwood of Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Rena Gates of Wray, Colorado, and two brothers, John and Henry, Jacob and Dirk having preceded him in death.
He was well and favorably known by his many friends for his kind and loving disposition.
On January 28, 1912, he accepted Christ as his Saviour and united with the Pleasant Hill M. E. church, and has lived a very faithful Christian life until his death.
Burial was made in the Griffis cemetery – Prairie City News
