James "Jim" Lee Osborn
August 31, 1949 ~ July 22, 2002 (age 52)

James Lee (Jim) Osborn, the son of William F. (Fred) and Violett L. Brown Osborn, was born on August 31, 1949, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was 1 of 14 children who grew up in northern rural Newton and Baxter, Iowa areas and attended Baxter High School. Jim had lived in Baxter prior to moving to Newton in the mid 1970’s.

On February 14, 1998, Jim was united in marriage to Marsha M. Kriegel in Newton, Iowa. He had been the Body and Paint Shop Manager at Axtell Ford & Chrysler in Newton for 20 years. Jim and Marsha moved to Melrose, Iowa in 2000. They owned and operated Ozzie’s Ole Red Barn, a restaurant and bar in Melrose. Jim was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and great friend.

Jim died on Monday, July 22, 2002, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 52. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and 2 sisters.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Marsha; 2 daughters, Lori Osborn of Fredericktown, Missouri and Ashley Osborn of Prairie City, Iowa; his step daughter, Angie Vajgrt of Melrose; 3 grandchildren; his 5 brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Catherine Osborn, Charles and Rachael Osborn, Stephen and Linda Osborn, Stanley and Linda Osborn, all of Newton, and Joseph and Kathy Osborn of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; 5 sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Hills, Ramona and William Russell, all of Newton, Ada and Walter Strick of Denver, Colorado, Shirley Hoyla of Des Moines, and Patricia Anthony of Laurel, Iowa; his sister-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law and their families; mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Marlin Smith of Melrose and his many nieces and nephews. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 22 July 2002.
