Charles Beard Died at 81
Funeral services for Charles Beard, 81, will be held Tuesday, at 1:30 p.m. at Coopers Funeral Home, Maxwell. The Rev. J. E. McLellan will officiate, with burial in the Greencastle Cemetery near Mingo. Mr. Beard died Saturday at 2:30 a.m. at the Story County Hospital, Nevada.
He is survived by his wife, Effie; two sons, Carl, Maxwell, and Eugene of Mt. Clair, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Pilcher, Des Moines; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Calhoun, 513 River Oak Drive, and four brothers, Willis, Mingo; Roy, Monroe; Jesse, Colfax; and Andrew, Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Beard farmed near Maxwell and Mingo since 1924 until his retirement four years ago.
