Newton, IA -- Services for former Jasper County resident John Ver Steeg, 95, who died of a heart ailment Friday at his daughter's home in Indio, California, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Merle Hay Mortuary in Des Moines. Burial will be in the Memorial Cemetery here.
Mr. Ver Steeg lived in Galesburg until three years ago, when he moved to Indio. He worked many years on the Jasper County road maintenance crew, and he served in the Army in World War I. He was a member of the Galesburg Christian Church and Monumental Masonic Lodge 311 of Galesburg.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Ryerson of Indio; a sister, Elizabeth Oliver of Newton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Merle Hay Mortuary.

INDIO, California - Funeral service for John Ver Steeg, 94, of Indio, California, who died Friday, June 24.
Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Mr. VerSteeg had resided in Galesburg until moving to California three years ago.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Oliver, of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances.
