Albert E. Stier, 74, Longtime Farmer, Dies Thursday
Baxter (Special) – Albert E. Stier, 74, native of Jasper county, died Thursday at Evangelical hospital in Marshalltown. He had suffered a stroke Jan. 2.
Born north of Mingo July 16, 1879, he was the son of John and Polly Stier. He was educated in rural schools, and he married Hattie Osborn Aug. 5, 1900, at Greencastle. She died in 1949.
Mr. Stier lived in the Mingo and Baxter area all of his life except for the years 1925 to 1930 when he lived on a farm at Spooner, Wis. He has been on his present farm northwest of Newton since 1947.
Survivors include 12 children, 35 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Chester (Ilean) Craddock, Fortuna, Calif., and a foster son, William Osborn, Spooner, Wis.
Children are Donald and Esther of Newton; Loren and Leo of Colfax; Jess of Baxter; Mrs. Henry (Zeta) Allspach and Mrs. Kay (Dorothy) Elliott of Rhodes; George of Gilman; Mrs. Darrell (Veona) Peak of Marshalltown; Mrs. Carl (Vera) Nelson of Luck, Wis.; Mrs. Fred (Maxine) Buchanan Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; and Mrs. Wayne (Ruth) Glenn of Tillamook, Ore.
Mr. Stier was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, two sisters and three brothers.
Prayer services will be held at Boyd-Nickell funeral home at 1:15 p.m., and church services will be at 2 p.m. in Mingo Methodist church. The Rev. Ralph Erts will officiate, and burial will be at Greencastle. Mr. Stier was a member of the Mingo church.
