Raymond P. “Curly” Gomez, 79, of 320 E. 8th St. N. died of heart failure Saturday, Oct. 19, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor A. B. Sudbrock of the Baptist Temple of Newton officiating. Burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Rumaldo and Marie (Balmer) Gomez, he was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Newton. He married Ethel Able. He was a cement truck driver for Key Wash Ready Mix. In 1962, he married Edythe Watkins in Newton.
Survivors include four step-daughters and two step-sons, Janet and Bill Plumb, Carolyn Fifer and Dixie Racine, all of Newton, and Vicki and Virgil Kling of Kellogg; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lucille M. and Raymond Dobbs of Newton and Margaret Baxter; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Able of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wife, and seven brothers.
