Bob Barrickman, 33, of GM Villa apparently died instantly as a result of the accident in the 1700 block of North 19th Avenue East.
Authorities said a police car driven by Barrickman, which was eastbound, and a westbound car driven by Mark Metz of 2013 N. 5th Ave. E. collided head-on. The collision occurred in the eastbound lane.

Barrickman was alone in the police car.
Police say a third vehicle driven by Craig Killinger of 2001 N. 5th Ave. E., left the road and went into the roadside ditch, but was apparently not involved in the collision.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. just east of the Rock Island railroad crossing.
