Funeral and Masonic services for Delmar L. Appleby, 84, of 1030 E. 19th St. N., will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton, officiating.
Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service.
Memorials to the Newton Masonic Lodge #59 AM and AF will be accepted.
He died of heart failure, Sunday, April 13, at the Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton.
The son of Reno B. and Thera (Wilson) Appleby, he was born Dec. 1, 1912 in Grinnell. He attended Malcom High School.
He married Mildred Scoville March 29, 1935 in Newton. Years later he married M. Ruth Hill March 14, 1990 in Vinton.
A longtime resident of Newton Mr. Appleby was employed as a manager of Ross Skelly for seven years; and by the Maytag Company as a security guard, retiring in 1974 after 21 years of employment. He was a member of the Newton masonic Lodge No. 59 AM and AF and the Newton First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry of Newton, Charlie and Judy of Shawnee, Kan. and David and Linda of Cherokee, Kan.; a step-son and step-daughter-in-law, David and Eileen Hill of Des Moines; a step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Susan and Tom Anderson of Newton; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and a brother, Harold “Happy” of Vinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife in 1985.
