Funeral services for Paul P. Murdy, 88, of 703 S. 13th Ave. W., will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield at 3:30 p.m.
Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after noon today where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted.
He died of Neuromuscular Disorder, Friday, April 11, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Mr. Murdy was born Oct. 31, 1908, in Moravia, the son of Elbert and Elma (Painter) Murdy. H graduated from Corning High School; attended Simpson College; and graduated from Drake University with a degree in pharmacy.
He married Helen May Swisher April 21, 1935.
Mr. Murdy had lived and owned a drug store in Coon Rapids before moving to Newton in 1937. He was the owner of Murdy Drug Store in Newton from 1937 to 1962, when he retired. He was also a partner in a drug store in Greenfield with his brother.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, the Methodist Men, Builders Class, Retired Methodist Men’s Club, Newton Camera Club, and Masonic Lodge AF and AM No. 100.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Cleo Murphy of Topeka, Kan., and Lynette and Robert Doyle of Norfolk, Va.; a brother Gordon of Indianaola; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
