Robert D. Main, 71, of Newton died of a heart attack Friday at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Mr. Main, a lifelong Newton resident, was a heavy-equipment operator with Mid-state Construction Co., an Air Force veteran and member of Izaak Walton League, Richland Grange, Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars and Central Iowa Cyclists.
Survivors include his wife, Lelah; three daughters, Margaret Shafer of Tracy and Carol Trease and Nancy Blumeyer, both of Newton; his mother and stepfather, Ora and Paul Jones, and a brother, Bill, all of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a sister, Dorothy Balbiani of Newton; six grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Izaak Walton League or Jasper County Historical Society.
