Charles M. McNew, 71, of 734 E. 19th St. N., died of complications following surgeries, Saturday, April 12, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Robert Hinshaw of the Ashton Chapel, assisted by the Rev. James Black of the Foursquare Church in Newton and the Rev. James Holmes of the New Testament Baptist Church in Des Moines, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home where family will be present tonight from 7 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to The Foursquare Church will be accepted.
The son of Edward and Alice (Drake) McNew, he was born June 9, 1925 in Newton. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School.
He married Betty Jean Michmershuizen March 29, 1946 in Newton.
A lifelong resident of Jasper County, Mr. McNew was employed as a contractor for 43 years. He was a member of The Foursquare Church and the Newton V.F.W. Post No. 1655.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Floyd, Don and Lori, and Rick and Leslie, all of Newton; a daughter, Faye Tinnermeier of Newton; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, James of Denver, Colo.; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Rev. James Holmes of Des Moines and Lois and Rev. Robert Hinshaw of Kellogg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.
